From the recording Blacktop Road

Lyrics

There are places that I’ve been to and there are things that I have done,
There’s stories I remember and tales that I have spun,
I’ve set sail to catch a fair wind and there are races I have run,
I’ve seen the full moon rising while I watched the setting sun.

There are things that I have made and there are things that I have bought,
There’s lessons that I’ve learned and there are those that I forgot,
These eyes have seen the wonder, but they’ve also cried the tears,
They’ve seen the changes coming as they’ve watched time disappear.

Time can’t be saved and it can’t be borrowed,
Yesterday came so quickly and then suddenly was gone,
Seems like today was just tomorrow,
If I’m lucky I might leave my account here overdrawn.

There are people that I’ve loved and there are people I have used,
There’s folks that I’ve been kind to and friendships I’ve abused,
I’ve done some things I’m proud of and some things that cause me shame,
But I’ve learned to own it all, take both the credit and the blame.

Time can’t be saved and it can’t be borrowed,
Yesterday came so quickly and then suddenly was gone,
Seems like today was just tomorrow,
If I’m lucky I might leave my account here overdrawn.

I’ve made a home in sunshine, I’ve made a home in mountain rain,
I’ve laughed through joyous times and I’ve suffered through some pain,
I’ve raised myself some children, two daughters and a son,
But I’ll share a secret with you, grandkids are much more fun.

Time can’t be saved and it can’t be borrowed,
Yesterday came so quickly and then suddenly was gone,
Seems like today was just tomorrow,
If I’m lucky I might leave my account here overdrawn.

If we’re lucky we might all leave our accounts here overdrawn.
